Pop-ups are one of the fastest ways to grow an email list, promote a sale, or get more bookings. Here's how to add a pop-up on Squarespace, what you can't do with it, and why Elementor users never hit these limits.
Pop-Ups Without Limits
Unlimited pop-ups, exit intent, and advanced targeting. Built into Elementor Pro.

How to Add a Pop-Up on Squarespace in 7 Steps
1. Open Marketing
From your site's home menu, click Marketing.
2. Click Promotional Pop-Up
3. Choose a layout and size
Some layouts support an image, or several for a slideshow effect.
4. Add your content
Write a headline and body text, then set your call to action, such as an email signup or a button.
5. Style it
Adjust colors, fonts, and spacing.
6. Set display rules
Choose which pages show it, when it appears (after a set number of seconds or a scroll percentage), how often returning visitors see it, and whether it shows on mobile.
7. Turn on Display Pop-Up and save
That's it. And unfortunately, that really is it.
The Limits of Squarespace Pop-Ups
- One pop-up at a time. You can't run a newsletter pop-up on your blog and a discount pop-up on your shop at once.
- Two triggers only: time on page or scroll depth. There's no exit intent, no on-click, and no inactivity trigger.
- Basic targeting. You choose pages, but you can't target by traffic source, number of visits, or logged-in status.
- Limited design. A handful of layouts, no video, and no custom form fields.
- Workarounds cost extra. Exit intent means pasting a third-party tool's code into Code Injection and paying for another subscription.
Squarespace vs Elementor Pro Pop-Ups
| Feature | Squarespace | Elementor Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Number of pop-ups | 1 at a time | Unlimited |
| Design | Preset layouts | Full drag-and-drop canvas |
| Exit-intent trigger | ❌ | ✅ |
| On-click trigger | ❌ | ✅ |
| Inactivity trigger | ❌ | ✅ |
| Scroll-to-element trigger | ❌ | ✅ |
| Show after X page views or sessions | ❌ | ✅ |
| Target by referrer, device, or login status | Mobile on/off only | ✅ |
| Custom form fields and video | ❌ | ✅ |
| Extra tool needed | Often | No |
Real-world example: On Elementor you can run an exit-intent "10% off" pop-up on product pages, a lead-magnet pop-up that only appears on blog posts after 60% scroll, and a "Book a call" pop-up when someone clicks a button, all at once. On Squarespace, you'd have to pick one.

Claude + Elementor: The Part That Changes Everything
The old trade-off was "Squarespace is easy, WordPress is powerful." That trade-off is gone. Elementor connects directly to Claude through the Elementor MCP, so instead of dragging blocks around, you describe what you want:
"Build an exit-intent pop-up offering a free pricing guide, with a name and email field, matching my site's colors."
Claude builds it as an editable Elementor draft inside your site. You review it, tweak anything, and publish. Whole pages and theme sections work the same way. You get the power of WordPress with the ease of describing what you want. In 2026, there's no better option for building a website.

FAQ
How do I add a pop-up on Squarespace?
Go to Marketing → Promotional Pop-Up, choose a layout, add your content and call to action, set display rules, and turn on Display Pop-Up.
Can Squarespace have more than one pop-up?
No. Squarespace's built-in Promotional Pop-Up runs one pop-up at a time.
Does Squarespace support exit-intent pop-ups?
Not natively. Its pop-ups trigger on time or scroll only. Exit intent requires a third-party tool added through code injection.
Are Elementor pop-ups free?
No. The Popup Builder is part of Elementor Pro. Advanced Solo ($84/yr) is the lowest plan that includes popups and forms.
Can Claude build an Elementor pop-up?
Yes. Through the Elementor MCP, Claude can create Elementor content from a description as an editable draft. Pro elements such as popups require a Pro plan.
